A video of a speech of Samajwadi party leader, Akhilesh Yadav has gone viral on social media. The video is being shared out of context to claim that Akhilesh Yadav has given credit to Pakistan’s founder Mohammad Ali Jinnah for the freedom of India.
In the viral video, Akhilesh Yadav is heard saying, “Jinnah studied in one institute and became a barrister, he got us freedom, he struggled in all ways.”
BJP Uttar Pradesh shared the video with a caption that reads, “अखिलेश यादव मानते हैं कि जिन्ना ने देश को आजादी दिलाई। जबकि सच ये है कि जिन्ना ने देश तोड़कर पाकिस्तान बनाया। क्या अखिलेश देश के टुकड़े करने वाले के साथ हैं? सरदार पटेल की जयंती पर जिन्ना से प्रेम क्यों पूछ रहा उत्तर प्रदेश। माफी मांगें अखिलेश।” (Which translates in English as, “Akhilesh Yadav believes that Jinnah brought freedom to the country. Whereas the truth is that Jinnah broke the country and created Pakistan. Is Akhilesh with the one who broke the country? A Twitter user Shyam Meera Singh had shared a longer version of the video. In the longer version, he said that Patel, Gandhi, Nehru, Jinnah all went to the same institute, became barristers and got freedom for the nation. They never backed from any kind of struggle. The entire clip was edited to portray that Akhilesh said ‘Jinnah got us freedom.’

We also found that the YouTube channel Samajwadi Akhilesh had also uploaded the full version of the video on November 1, 2021. At around 9:41 timestamp, he can be heard making the viral comment. The description associated with the video read, “Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav’s brilliant speech on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti from Lucknow Public School, Hardoi.”
Conclusion: An edited version of the video has gone viral with the claim that Akhilesh Yadav said Jinnah got us freedom.
