FactO Check:

We found this claim suspicious and surfed the NCRB (National Crime Record Bureau) website, the official source, and found a report published in DEC 2019 for the year of 2018. We found that the IPC (India Panel code) crime rate in Uttar Pradesh has not reduced since 2016 and it continued to increase, where there is slight dip in SLL(Special and Local Laws) cases between 2017-2018.

The Hindu published a report “Uttar Pradesh tops list in crimes against women“, where NDTV wrote “Crime Rate High In UP, Shows Data. Top Cop Pins It On “Large Population” in January 2020.

UP govt has recently released data based on NCRB 2018 report and claimed that Uttar Pradesh has less crime rate than many other states based on its large population. Uttar Pradesh holds 19% of total Population of India.
