Fact Check: IMA didn’t withdraw its complaint against Baba Ramdev

Written by Hritik Mishra

Ramdev, chief of Patanjali has made disparaging remarks against allopathy and allopathic doctors a week ago. IMA has filed a complaint against Ramdev Over ‘Wrongful’ Representation of Allopathy. Now a claim has been viral across all the social media platforms about the retreat of IMA on their complaint against yoga guru Baba Ramdev for his controversial remarks on allopathy.

A Facebook group called, गर्व से कहो हम हिंदू है {ग्रुप में जुड़े ही 100 साथियो को जोडे} with over 82k members, recently, shared a post with the caption reads as; (Big Breaking, IMA ने बाबा रामदेव के आगे झुकाया सर कंप्लेन वापस लिया एकता और आयुर्वेद की हुई जीत 🙏🚩जय श्री राम 🚩🙏). It has, as of now, garnered over 1.6k likes and has been shared 105 times.

Translation: “Big Breaking, IMA has bowed down before Baba Ramdev and took back its complaint. Unity and Ayurveda have won, Jai Shri Ram.”

It was also shared by several Twitter users with the same claims. Archived tweets are here, here, and here.

FactO Check:

Upon multiple requests to verify this claim, we searched on Google using relevant keywords and found that, as of now, IMA didn’t withdraw its complaints against Baba Ramdev. Indian Medical Association, IMA chief Dr JA Jaylal said to news agency PTI, ” We have nothing against yoga guru Baba Ramdev. His statements are against vaccination for Covid-19. We think his statements could confuse people, may divert them. This is our big concern as he has many followers. ”

He further said that “If Ramdev comes forward to withdraw his remark in its entirety, then the IMA will consider taking back the complaints and the defamation notice.”

To get more information on this claim, our team has sent an email to the Indian Medical Association, IMA, and its chief Dr JA Jaylal to get their comments on this viral claim. They have denied all these claims and said ” This is absolutely false, IMA will not back off till justice is done.”

We have also received an email confirmation from Hony Secretary General, IMA, who has rubbished the viral claim.

Conclusion: As of now, IMA has not taken back its complaints against the controversial statements made by Baba Ramdev and the viral claim that IMA has already withdrawn all the complaints is completely false and misleading.
