Days after Indian legendary sprinter Milkha Singh admitted to ICU with COVID-19, many social media users have claimed that Milkha Singh passed away due to COVID-19. 91-year-old Milkha Singh was admitted in a private hospital in Mohali and was discharged at the request of his family members. He was then admitted to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh on June 3, 2021, due to dipping levels of oxygen. Meanwhile, many social media users have started to spread rumours about his death.

Following the rumours, PGIMER, refuting the claims, on June 5th released a medical bulletin. “On the basis of all the medical parameters today i.e. 5th June 2021, his condition has been observed better than yesterday,” the hospital said. DD News also tweeted the medical bulletin, “Flying Sikh #MilkhaSingh‘s health is better today and he is being closely monitored by a team of three doctors ” with the pictures of Milkha Singh.

Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju also tweeted and urged social media users not to spread rumors about Milkha Singh and confirmed that his health condition is stable.
