A post on social media is getting viral claiming that the Pakistani news portal the Dawn has published a story in which it claims that the current flood in the country is happening because people are not reading Qur’an — the holy book of Islam.
Echoing the claim, a Twitter user wrote on his profile, “I’m not laughing at the flood victims but at the silly comments made by Islamic clerics who claim that “floods in Pakistan are not due to climate change but because people are not reading Quran.”
“Muslims see non-Muslims as Kaafir (infidel) but we Hindus believe each & every soul is divine”, he further added.

Another man made a similar claim on Twitter and said, “🔸#Flood in #Pakistan🔸Reason for Flood is ridiculous. 🔸#Pakistani #Media #Dawn says, people not reading #Quran is the reason.”

In order to get the vicinity of the viral tweets, we simply went to the Dawn news portal and searched the whole headline of the viral tweet — floods in Pakistan are not due to climate change but because people are not reading the Quran.
Upon searching the relevant keywords, the website redirected us to a fact-check debunking the viral claim that associated the flood with the reading of the Quran. The headline of the article says, “Doctored screenshot of Dawn’s story on floods surfaces on social media, attempts to mislead public”.
