Fake Viral

No, Akhilesh Yadav didn’t say Yogi government will bring prosperity in Uttar Pradesh

Written by Md Mahfooz Alam

A 0:12-second video of  Akhilesh Yadav is being shared on social media with the claim that the former chief minister has said if the Yogi government is formed in Uttar Pradesh, the state will go on the path of prosperity.

The video appears to be of a speech from recent election campaigning ahead of the assembly election of Uttar Pradesh which is scheduled in 7 phases beginning 10 February to 10 March 2022.

Facto News found the claim is misleading and the word “Yogya” has been misrepresented as “Yogi”.

A Twitter handle, AIMIM UTRAULA, posted the viral video with a caption that reads: अखिलेश की फिसली जुबान बोले योगी सरकार बनेगी तभी खुशहाली के रास्ते पर जायेगा उत्तर प्रदेश”

(Translation: Akhilesh had a slip of tongue and he said if Yogi government is formed, only then Uttar Pradesh will go on the path of prosperity)

The viral video also has a text which reads “Yogi sarkar hi banegi”.

Several others have shared the video with the same claim on Twitter and Facebook. An archive of which can be accessed here and here.

FactO Check:

We listened to the viral video many times and found, as being claimed, no such thing was said by Akhilesh Yadav .

The statement of Akhilesh Yadav in the viral video loosely translates in English as: “I want to request that if Uttar Pradesh is to be taken on the path of prosperity, then a capable government must be formed, only then Uttar  Pradesh will go on the path of prosperity”.

Therefore, the word योग्य (Capable/Suitable) has been misled as Yogi.

On the top right corner of the viral video, we noticed the logo of Headlines India. Using the keyword we found a longer video of Akhilesh Yadav uploaded on 2 January 2022 on the verified YouTube channel of Headlines India.

He is addressing the public in Meerut and the viral video is clipped from this longer video at 0:58 seconds.

We also found an article published on 2 December 2021 in The Times of India titled: “Do you want Yogi sarkar or a yogya sarkar, Akhilesh asks people in Banda”. This concludes Akhilesh Yadav has been using the word yogya sarkar frequently

With the above findings, it can be concluded that Akhilesh Yadav never said that the Yogi government will bring prosperity to Uttar Pradesh.
