No, the road with potholes is not from Smriti Irani’s constituency Amethi

Written by Md Mahfooz Alam

An image of the road with potholes and water logging is being widely shared on social media. It is being claimed by several users that the road is from  Smriti Irani’s Lok Sabha constituency Amethi.

The caption along with the post reads, इसको कहते हैं स्मार्ट सड़क, वाह अमेठी वाली @smiritiirani वाह” (Translation: This is called a smart road, wow Amethi’s @smiritiirani wow.) Archived

FactO Check:

We reversed search the image on Google and found this is not the first time that this road is in the news. In past, the same road has been shared with the claim of it being from the Wayanad, the Lok Sabha constituency of Rahul Gandhi. However, we found the viral image of the road is neither from the Amethi nor from Wayanad.

In the reverse search of the image, we found an article titled “Bhagalpur NH-80 in bad shape” published on 29 July 2007 in The Times of India. The article carries the viral image and according to the article, the image is of NH-80 from Bhagalpur, Bihar.

We also found a ground report of the ABP news titled “बिहार को बदनाम करने वाली सड़क का वायरल सच”.  This ground report has also confirmed the viral image is from Bhagalpur, Bihar.

Conclusion: The claim about the viral image being from Amethi is fake and it is shared again and again with different claims.
