Farmers had announced a shutdown across India on the first anniversary of three contentious farm laws on September 27, 2021. The protest was announced by Samyukta Kisan Morcha and various other organizations including various labor unions participated in the protest.
An image has gone viral on social media in which vehicles are seen on street. The image is shared to claim that there was no shutdown across India, and the protest failed. The image is shared with different captions, all hinting that the image is of different places.
Another Twitter shared the post with a caption that reads, “My city is fully open. Bangalore does not support Bharat bandh. This is a real picture taken right now.” The post can be seen here and its archive can be seen here.
On performing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same image was published by the website Patna Beats on November 2, 2016. The headline associated with the image reads, “Odd-Even Parking scheme launched in Patna to curb traffic issues”
The image was also shared by Dainik Jagran in an article published 3 years ago. The caption of the image read, “पटना जंक्शन से गांधी मैदान जाने वाले वाहनों को एग्जीबिशन रोड से जाना होगा” (Which translates in English as, “Vehicles from Patna junction to Gandhi Maidan will have to take aa route from exhibition road.”)
Hence, an old image from Patna is being circulated with a fake claim that Bharat Bandh announced by farmers was a failure. Here are some pictures of protest across India on September 27.
