FactO check

We ran a reverse image search that led us to the official website of Prime Minister of India. On analysing the image carefully, the original image of PM Modi holding an image of gold coins can be seen.

The rest of the pictures from the event were also found on the same page. The pictures along with a youtube video from the event was titled, ‘PM’s remarks after the launch of gold related schemes’ dated 5th Nov 2015.

The video can also be seen on the official youtube channel of PMO India. The description of the video reads, ‘Gold Monetisation Scheme, Gold Sovereign Bond Scheme, Gold coin Scheme and Gold Bullion Scheme’ that tells all the schemes PM was launching in the event.

The real image can be seen at the time stamp of 14:23mins in the above video.

For more confirmation, we ran a key word search and found a media coverage from the event on Forbes India.

The report says, ‘Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched three gold-related schemes on Thursday in a bid to rein in the country’s appetite for the yellow metal. The three schemes—namely, the Gold Monetisation Scheme (GMS), Gold Sovereign Bond Scheme and the Gold Coin and Bullion Scheme—will help curtail gold imports and utilise at least 20,000 tonnes of the precious metal owned by Indian households.’

With the above investigation, it is evident that the image is clearly morphed. PM Modi never help photo of late Sidhu Moose Wala. Hence, the image is misleading.
