Amid the escalating conflict between Russia-Ukraine, screenshots of tweets by fake twitter accounts of CNN is being circulated on social media. The screenshot shows two tweets by fake accounts about the death of an alleged CNN Journalist.
A Twitter user @ExSecular
shared the screenshot with a caption “Krantikari journalism” which translates to “revolutionary journalism” Archive
Another Twitter user @Clotitoris
shared the screenshot with a caption that reads “Así funcionan los medios. La misma persona “ejecutada” por los talibanes en Afganistán en 2021 es también la primera víctima mortal estadounidense en la “crisis de Ucrania” en 2022.” which translates to “This is how the media works. The same person “executed” by the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2021 is also the first American fatality in the “Ukraine crisis” in 2022.” Archive
Another Twitter user @weltenlehrer
shared the screenshot with a caption that reads “Wow Dieselbe Person, die von den Taliban in Afghanistan “hingerichtet” wurde, ist auch das erste amerikanische Todesopfer in der “Ukraine-Krise”.” which translates to “Wow The same person “executed” by the Taliban in Afghanistan is also the first American fatality in the “Ukraine crisis”. First we noticed that both the accounts in the screenshot aren’t verified by twitter. Then we checked the twitter accounts and found that both were suspended by twitter.
With a keyword search on twitter we found that the twitter account @CNNUKR was created recently (in this month)
A reverse image search of the image directed us to a website Wikitubia
which shares information about YouTubers.
Taking cue from here, we found that the YouTuber
is active on Youtube and had streamed a video recently.
The news of death of a Journalist is FAKE. Both Twitter accounts are FAKE.
