Unrelated images viral as Christian priest at a Hindu temple

After the Tamil Nadu Government appointed three non-Brahmin priests in Madurai’s temples, two unrelated images are doing the rounds on social media as the person in the image is a Christian.

A Twitter user @moharajo shared the image with a caption that reads: “Drinking beer in the image is Thomas Rajan – a practicing Christian, Xtian TN Govt appointed him a priest in Hindu Mandir. This is how state ecosystem has started working to grab control over our temples.” Archived. The tweet has about 1k likes at the time of writing this article.

Another Twitter user @Indigen_Apsara shared the image with the caption that reads: “He is Thomas Rajan – Christian Govt in TN appointed priest in Hindu Temple” Archived. The tweet has about 750 likes at the time of writing this article.

Pic 1:

A reverse image search of the first image directed us to a YouTube video by Pazhagalam Vaanga with the title Priest drinking beer dated 8 July 2017. The video can be seen below. (Tamil Language)

 

In the video, at 1:12 the man can be heard saying his name as Shankar. 

Pic 2:

We couldn’t find more information on this pic but we found that the image was shared on 6 February 2020 by  @isnakebabu (Archived)and on 10 May 2020 by @Selvaku68059627(Archived ) on Twitter.

Whereas the priests were appointed on 14 August 2021

Conclusion:

Two unrelated images are shared as a Christian priest at a Hindu temple insulting a Hindu god.
