Ever since the Taliban took over Afghanistan, several unrelated old images/videos from different parts of the world and a plethora of misinformation has stormed the Internet. Many users have been sharing misinformation in context with the present situation in Afghanistan. Now, a video of Pakistani scholar is being shared as a Taliban member with a claim that Taliban has accepted that BJP and RSS are most powerful in India.
A Twitter user Priynka Sharma shared the video with a caption that reads “तालिबान ने यह स्वीकार किया कि भारत में RSS और BJP ज्यादा ताकतवर है जब भारत में BJP रहेगी कोई देश हमला नही कर सकता अगर भारत पर हमला करना हैं तौ पहले Bjp हटाओ इस विडियो को देखिए कि तालिबान के मुख्य सचिव ने क्या कहा…👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻गर्व होता हैं RSS ओर बीजेपी पर………” which translates to, ‘Taliban accepted that RSS and BJP are more powerful in India when BJP will be in India no country can attack if India is to be attacked then first remove Bjp Watch this video what Taliban chief secretary said… Proud of RSS and BJP………’Archive version of the tweet can be found here.
Another Twitter user Nandu shared the video with a caption that reads ‘One of the finest observation about RSS and sangh parivar by Taliban’. Archive version of the tweet can be found here.
Another Twitter user V.Sreekumar shared the video with a caption that reads ‘Taliban accepted that RSS and BJP are more powerful in India when BJP will be in India no country can attack if India is to be attacked then first remove Bjp Watch this video what Taliban chief secretary said… Proud of RSS…….. Must listen to the full video…..’ Archive version of the tweet can be found here.
The claim is viral on Facebook also.
We noticed the logo in background of the viral video which reads as NWAA. Taking a cue from that, we Googled NWAA and found an YouTube channel which has the full version of the viral video. The viral video is clipped from the below video.
The video was uploaded on 06-08-2020 but in the video it shows 01-03-2019 as date of recording. According to the video description the man is Khalid Mehmood Abbasi. He has called RSS as semi-militant many times in the video.
Speaking to The Quint over phone, Abbasi denied any affiliation with the Taliban and confirmed that the video was old.
“This is a completely false statement, that I am the chief secretary of Taliban. The Taliban has come to power in Afghanistan now, but part of the clip has been taken out from the video which is about 1.5 years old. I have no links with the Taliban or any political party”, said Abbasi.
Conclusion: It is evident from the above findings that the man is an Islamic scholar from Pakistan and not a Taliban member.
