A newspaper clipping of a report from the Hindi edition of the Hindustan Times is being widely shared across social media platforms by several users. The report is about the impact of the COVID-19 third wave, however, the title of the report shared on social media uses the unparliamentary word.
The caption along with the post reads:“पत्रकारिता के नए मानदंड तय करते हुए भारतीय मीडिया!” (Translation: Indian media setting new standards of journalism!) and the title of the viral news clipping reads: “राहत: कोरोना की तीसरी लहर *** बराबर आएगी ” (Translation: Relief: The third wave of the corona will be like ***). Note: We have blurred the unparliamentary word.
The newspaper clipping is viral on Facebook also.
FactO Check:
We tried to read the first paragraph of the viral clipping and taking the cue from the paragraph we searched the report on Google using the keywords and the name of the publication. The search led us to a report published on the website of the Hindustan on June 19. The title of the report is completely different from the viral newspaper clipping, however, the first paragraph of the online publication matched with the viral clipping.
We then searched the e-paper of the Hindustan and found the same report published in the Lucknow edition of the newspaper on June 10. The difference between the original and morphed title can be seen in the screenshot of the e-paper below.
Conclusion:
The title in the viral clipping of the newspaper is mischievously morphed.
