2024 elections: 11 capitals elect mayors in the 1st round; 15 will have 2nd round
The first round of the 2024 municipal elections comes to an end, this Sunday (6), with 11 capitals in the country having mayors elected or re-elected in this initial round of voting.
According to electoral rules, all Brazilian capitals could have a second round because they have more than 200 thousand voters.
In the capitals, the first victorious mayor in the first round was Eduardo Braide (PSD), in São Luís, Maranhão, with more than 400 thousand votes.
The most significant advantage was that of Dr. Furlan (MDB), who won in Macapá (AP) with more than 85% of valid votes.
Among the political parties, the one that elected the most mayors in the first round was the PSD, with Eduardo Paes (Rio de Janeiro), Eduardo Braide (São Luís) and Topázio Neto (Florianópolis).
The PL, party of former president Jair Bolsonaro, won in the first round in two capitals, as did the MDB and União Brasil. Republicans and PSB won one each.

15 capitals go to the 2nd round
On the other hand, 15 capitals in the country will have a new round in this year’s municipal elections, on October 27th.
The first capital to define that there would be a second round was Belém (PA), which will have a dispute between Igor Normando (MDB), candidate supported by governor Helder Barbalho (MDB), and Delegate Eder Mauro (PL), named after former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL).
The current mayor of the capital of Pará, Edmilson Rodrigues (PSOL), sought re-election, but ended up being left out.
The last definition of the night was precisely from the largest electoral college in the country, São Paulo (SP). Mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB), candidate for re-election, will compete in the second round against federal deputy Guilherme Boulos (PSOL). Both beat influencer Pablo Marçal (PRTB), who finished in third place.
