19 -year -old did not put off fire and caused New Jersey’s ‘biggest fire’
According to the local prosecutor, the fire began with a “poorly erased bonfire”. The investigation points to the suspect as “responsible”.
The fire, which spreads through Ocean County, a coastal region of New Jersey, south of New York, is 50% controlled, according to the last Firefighters update, published on Facebook.
To date, there have been no reports of victims, but the fire has destroyed a commercial building and can become the largest forest fire in the state in 20 years, when the fires devastated 17,000 hectares.
According to the local Fire Department, fires usually destroy 7,000 hectares of forest each year in this state.
The images show a layer of thick smoke hanging over the region and smelled strongly in Manhattan, where health officials warned on Thursday morning that air quality would be affected and recommended that “most sensitive” people limit their outdoor activities.
