Cardinal condemned gives up on participating in the conclave, according to Italian press
Becciu insisted that he could participate in the conclave that starts on May 7, although he was not on the official voter list.
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State of Francisco for years, delivered to Becciu two documents signed by the Argentine pontiff confirming that he could not participate.
The first letter was dated 2023 and the other last month, according to the newspaper Domani.
Parolin would have submitted the documents to the cardinals gathered earlier to prepare the land for the conclave.
Becciu was number two of the Secretariat of State between 2011 and 2018, five years in the management of Parolin, considered by many to be the main candidate for the papacy.
The fall of Becciu occurred amid a series of reforms promoted by Francisco with the objective of remedy the Vatican finances, notoriously obscure.
