Trump pressures Ukraine to accept Putin’s proposal on war
What happened
On Saturday, during a visit by the leaders of Britain, France, Germany and Poland to the Ukrainian capital, an appeal was made for a ceasefire to be established from Monday, the 12th, and for a month.
In response, Putin suggested another way: a meeting on May 15 to start negotiations. But without a pre-condition of a ceasefire.
The Europeans decided to establish an ultimatum. If Kremlin does not accept ceasefire, new sanctions will be established.
Initially, French President Emmanuel Macron rejected Putin’s position. According to him, no conversation would be possible until Putin agreed with the ceasefire.
“President Zelensky has committed himself without establishing any condition. We now expect an equally clear response from Russia. There can be no negotiations while weapons are talking. There can be no dialogue if at the same time, civilians are being bombarded,” the Frenchman said on social networks.
