Church worships Harry Potter and compares wizard’s spell with Jesus’ power
In addition to the decoration, the church also served snacks inspired by the saga. Chocolate beans, hats made of parmesan and buttless beer without alcohol were in the menu. “Our team rehearsed and cooked for a long time until the malt and butter were somehow tasty,” said Pastor Jonas Goebel, in an interview with the German newspaper Bergeorfer Zeitung.
The “Harry Potter” theme reached the pastor’s sermon. In preaching, Goebel related the spell “PATRONUM EXPECT“, used by wizards in books and movies, to the power of Jesus Christ.
The phrase might well have come from Jesus, because it translates as ‘I am waiting for my protector’. But there is also a big difference! For a magical spell, I have to practice a lot and for a long time. Fortunately, this does not apply to a prayer to God, for example, when I ask Jesus to dissipate darkness. JONAS GOEBEL
In addition to Harry Potter, the church also had a service inspired by “The Pirates of the Caribbean”. In this case, instead of the tables, the faithful sat in boats scattered throughout the church hall.
