US Supreme Court prevents Trump from resuming expulsion from Venezuelans

The Supreme Court, made up of nine judges? of which three are progressive? First intervened in this case on April 19 to block the summary deportations of Venezuelan immigrants in an irregular situation for El Salvador.

The administration again appealed to the maximum court to be able to deport another group detained in Texas (south).

In a decision of 7 votes against 2, the magistrates blocked the government’s plans for considering that immigrants were not given enough time to dispute their expulsion.

“A notification about 24 hours before expulsion, devoid of information on how to exercise rights to due process (…) does not comply with the requirements,” the decision says.

However, the Supreme Court considers that it is far “away from the circumstances on the field” and returns the case to the fifth circuit, a court of appeals, to comment on the merits of the matter.

“To make it clear, today we have only decided that detainees are entitled to greater notification than that given on April 18, and grant a temporary precautionary measure,” they emphasize.
