Berlin politicians condemn brutality
“The attack on a police officer at the demonstration in Kreuzberg is nothing more than an act of cowardly and brutal violence,” said Berlin mayor Kai Wegner of the Conservative Union Democratic Christian (CDU) party. “Attacks against police are attacks on law and order and therefore against all of us.”
Berlin interior secretary Iris Spranger of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) promised harsh measures against the prisoners. “The demonstration in Berlin climbed horrible,” she said. “This brutal violence against police officers has nothing to do with political protest.”
Israel-Germany Society (DIG) highlighted “strong radicalization” and a “consequent increase in violence” and asked the authorizations for this type of manifestation to be reconsidered.
