STF begins new phase of the trial of the coup plot: 82 witnesses will be heard
The Federal Supreme Court (STF) begins on Monday (19) a new stage of the trial of the criminal action that investigates the alleged scammer plot to keep Jair Bolsonaro (PL) in power after its electoral defeat in 2022. The current phase is dedicated to the hearing of 82 witnesses indicated by the defendants and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), with testimonials until the beginning of June.
This first week, the Court will begin testimonials with witnesses indicated by the PGR linked to the so-called “crucial core” of the coup, a group that includes military personnel and authorities close to the former president.

The PGR has heard, lastly, former commanders Marco Antonio Freire Gomes (Army) and Carlos Almeida Baptista Junior (Aeronautics)-who confirmed that Bolsonaro presented the draft of the coup.

Testimonials by Mauro Cid and other accused
On Thursday (22), it will be the turn of the witnesses indicated by Mauro Cid, a former joint of Jair Bolsonaro and defendant’s orders in the case, which signed an award-winning plea agreement with the authorities. Among the summoned are former army commander General Júlio Cesar de Arruda, who commanded the institution on January 8, and Luís Marcos dos Reis, former Bolsonaro advisor.
From Friday (23), the testimonies of the witnesses of Alexandre Ramagem, former director of ABIN, and General Braga Netto, former minister of the Civil House of Bolsonaro. Witnesses include Carlos Afonso Gonçalves Gomes Coelho, a delegate investigated in the case of Parallel Abin, and rolling Alexandre de Souza, former director-general of the Federal Police.
Bolsonaro summons allies as witnesses
Between May 30 and June 2, it will be the turn of Jair Bolsonaro’s defense witnesses, including heavy names such as the governor of Sao Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, former Tourism Minister Gilson Machado, Senator Rogério Marinho (PL-RN) and Deputy Eduardo Pazuello (PL-RJ), as well as former TSE Secretary of Technology Giuseppe Dutra Janino.
PGR Strategy: Leaders and Division in Centers
The complaint of the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), presented to the Supreme Court on March 26, accuses Bolsonaro and 33 others involved in an attempted coup, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law and criminal organization. PGR’s strategy is to consolidate proofs that Bolsonaro and his allies have tried to remain in power through unconstitutional measures and coordinated actions, which included attempts to delegitimize the electoral process and to use the Armed Forces to support the coup plan. The trial continues to expect new testimonials and revelations that may influence the outcome of the case.
