USA ceases to recommend covid vaccines for children and pregnant women
For a long time, Kennedy Jr. promoted misinformation about vaccines in general and against COVID-19 in particular.
“It could not be more happy to announce that, from today, Covid’s vaccine for healthy children and pregnant women was taken from the vaccination schedule, recommended by CDCs,” centers for the country’s control and disease prevention, he said in a video published in X.
FDA authorities have also pointed out that vaccine manufacturers will have to perform new clinical tests if they wish to maintain approval for their use in healthy people over 65 years.
Recent changes raised criticism.
Amsh Adalja, an infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins University, told AFP last week that, although the new approach coincided with the one adopted by other countries, “COVID-19’s initial vaccine series should be part of routine children’s immunization.”
Paul Offit, one of the leading vaccine experts at Philadelphia Children’s Hospital, warned that, on the contrary, could restrict access from people who still want reinforcements, especially in the United States’s private health system, where insurance companies can reject coverage.
