Zambelli “is well and safe in Italy,” says Figueiredo
Federal Deputy Carla Zambelli (PL-SP), considered on the run after leaving Brazil, is in Italy, according to communicator Paulo Figueiredo, ally of the parliamentarian and grandson of former President João Figueiredo. The information was released by Figueiredo on social networks: “Deputy Carla Zambelli is already well and safe in Italy.”
The deputy’s pre-trial detention was decreed the day before by Minister Alexandre de Moraes of the Supreme Court (STF), in compliance with a request from the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). Zambelli was sentenced to 10 years in prison for participation in the invasion of systems of the National Council of Justice (CNJ) and the loss of mandate.

In the decision, Moraes ordered the Federal Police to provide Zambelli’s inclusion in Interpol’s red list and inform his location to the competent authorities to enable the formal request for extradition.

The minister justified the arrest stating that there is “unambiguous intention of the parliamentarian to steal himself to the application of criminal law”, and stressed that the departure of the country occurred “on the eve of the judgment of embargoes of declaration and the impending decree of the loss of the mandate”.
In addition to the arrest, Moraes ordered the blockade of all assets and financial assets of the deputy.
Parliamentary wants campaign against STF in Europe
In a recent interview with the channel AuriverdeZambelli confirmed that he was abroad for days. He said he was looking for medical treatment and intends to license from office. It also stated that it plans to start a campaign against the Supreme Court in Europe, such as what has been doing licensed deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) in the United States.
Behind the scenes, parliamentarian’s allies claim that she opted for Italy as a final destination for considering the country less likely to authorize extradition, unlike the US, where the interlocution with Donald Trump supporters indicated institutional resistance to collaborating with Brazilian justice.
Zambelli’s permanence abroad can deepen the tension between legislature and judiciary, at a time when the House of Representatives must still decide on confirmation of the arrest, if it is executed on national soil.
