Opposition is in a hurry to overthrow IOF, but MP is for later

It is already scheduled for next Monday (16/6), in the plenary of the House, the vote on the urgency of the Legislative Decree project to suspend the government project that deals with the rates of the Financial Operations Tax (IOF). Opposition leaders expects to overthrow the current decree and also the previous one next week.

According to New Party leader Marcel Van Hattem (RS), the new decree remains tax increases and that would be a “aggression” to Congress, because, in his opinion, the government cannot increase tax to raise via decree.

PL leader Sostenes Cavalcante (RJ) admits that after sustaining the new decree, the previous decree, which he considers worse. But it is expected to knock you down too.

“We are willing to overthrow this dawn and last week. Because the tax payer cannot continue to be stolen by this irresponsible government that does not want to contain spending,” says Sostenes.

At the meeting with the leaders in the morning, President Hugo Motta pledged to put only the urgency in voting next Monday.

The urgent request that sustains the IOF decree has the support of the PP, União Brasil, Somos, new and Republicans. The PSD will still consult the bench.

What does the government leadership say?

The government leader in the House, José Guimarães (PT-CE), said that the house will vote on Monday only the urgency of the suspension project. According to him, the government wants to dialogue to maintain the current decree. “And it has controversy. Because this decree is annulled, the previous one remains,” says the leader.

Guimarães admits that the situation is worrying and needs to start discussing the merits of the subjects. “If there is no solution, there will be new cuts and contingencies, which even reaches amendments. The best way is dialogue,” he warns.

As for the provisional measure, he says he will be able to discuss from the rapporteur’s definition. But it guarantees that it will continue to work, until Monday night, to reach a new level of dialogue and advance in the processing of the MP.
