628 cities of SP do not achieve vaccine goals, says unpublished study

An unprecedented survey of the Question of Science Institute (IQC), in partnership with the Brazilian Society of Immunization (SBIM) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), shows that the crisis in child vaccination in Brazil is more lasting and critical than one could imagine.

With data on immunization between 2000 and 2023, the VaccinaBr 2025 yearbook, launched on Tuesday, 17, shows that children’s vaccination has fallen since 2015. In some cases, the low was intensified from 2020.

In addition to the fall nationwide, there are low vaccination pockets in different regions, which opens dangerous breaches, capable of facilitating the return of diseases under control. In states such as Amazonas, Pará, Maranhão and Rio Grande do Sul, there are neighboring cities with totally different realities: if one reaches 95% vaccination coverage, another rise from 50%.
