Ciro Nogueira criticizes Lula’s “We Against them”: “Used in 1989 and lost the election”
Senator Ciro Nogueira (PP-PI) said on Wednesday (2), during the Lisbon Forum, that President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is trying to reissue a social confrontation speech that has already been failed in the past. “He used this in 1989 and lost the election. He is wanting to reprint this speech that is very bad for Brazil, to society, to President Lula’s legacy,” the congressman said in conversation with journalists.
Ciro, who was Minister of the Civil House in the Jair Bolsonaro government, harshly criticized the federal government’s rhetoric when dealing with the crisis caused by the overthrow of the IOF decree by Congress. For him, the attempt to divide society between “rich and poor” serves only to straighten polarization and divert the focus from the country’s real tax problems.

“Lula was a man of consensus and was victorious when he sought this way. Now he is radical, outdated. I hope he reviews this position. I don’t hope it continues that,” he said.

The senator also countered the government’s argument that the increase in IOF would not impact the poorest. “It’s the opposite. The poor one is the one who suffers the most. The rich man does not fund the grocery store. Who buys in installments is the worker.”
Ciro argued that, in view of the current fiscal scenario, the executive should adopt a more conciliatory stance with Congress, and proposed a collective effort to contain expenses in the three powers. “Feel with Congress to see where to cut. Let’s show that the sacrifice is everyone, not just the taxpayer,” he said.
