Brazil needs to be creative to retaliate Trump rate, says Professor
Another issue is the remittances of US multinational royalties. Brazil could also do some kind of action in this regard.
Carlos Gustavo Poggio, Professor of International Relations
President Lula said he will create emergency committee with entrepreneurs to counteract the announcement of the tax agent of the US, Donald Trump.
Professor Carlos Poggio said it is time to be creative. For him, it would not be intelligent by Brazil just retaliation with tariffs about the machinery that matters from the US, which would end up with the national production chain.
In the issue of reciprocity, for Brazil it would not be smart just that you put tariffs, for example, about the machinery that imports from the United States, that this would make the Brazilian production chain more expensive.
So there are ways in Brazil to answer that they are beyond, that is, it will have to be creative in this regard and our diplomats who have a lot of experience with the WTO rule, although the WTO is completely scrapped by the Donald Trump government. All these actions that Trump takes are actions contrary to the WTO planning.
So the possibilities that Brazil has are retaliation in other sectors that do not simply increase rates for imported products, imported Americans for Brazil, service sectors, royalties, etc.
