Eduardo Bolsonaro returns to Washington to ask for new punishments to Brazil
At the headquarters of American diplomacy, Eduardo has a meeting scheduled with Ricardo Pita, senior counselor of the Western Hemisphere Office of the State Department.
Pita, who in the first semester came to visit former President Jair Bolsonaro in Brasilia, in an episode that generated discomfort in the Brazilian government, is one of the main artisans of defense of sanctions of Global Magnitsky law against the Supreme Court Minister (STF) Alexandre de Moraes under Trump government. Moraes is the rapporteur judge of the case in which Bolsonaro is a defendant. Among other crimes, the former president responds in court for attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, which he denies. Of Venezuelan origin, Pita is recognized in the agency as responsible for projecting the sanctions applied against former Argentine President Cristina Kirchner, in the first half.
This Sunday, Eduardo Bolsonaro again asked for publicly that Trump and secretary of state Marco Rubio impose financial sanctions on Alexandre de Moraes. This is certainly one of the central points of the new agenda in Washington, but not only. Eduardo should add among his targets from the Federal Police delegates involved in the investigation into the attempted coup of Bolsonarists and other ministers of the Supreme.
In recent days, politicians such as the governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas, have changed the positive initial tone about the tariff – and the crack on the Brazilian right was wide open. Sao Paulo has a large electorate electorate and will be the state most affected by the rates imposed by Trump.
Tarcisio even asked for a meeting in Brasilia with the US embassy business in Brazil, Gabriel Escobar, to try to negotiate some rate relief. Escobar will go to Sao Paulo this Tuesday, 15, to meet Tarcisio and São Paulo entrepreneurs affected by the measure. To Folha de São Paulo, Eduardo called Tarcisio’s articulation a “disrespect” with “the president’s son”, in reference to his effort for punishment to Brazil in the US. Tarcisio’s strategy with Americans is not being coordinated with Eduardo or Figueiredo. The column tried to talk to Eduardo, but he did not answer the calls.
