Investigated by the STF, Marcos do Val goes to the US with a blocked passport, says Portal

Senator Marcos do Val (Somos-ES), the target of investigations in the Federal Supreme Court (STF), is in Miami, United States, even after decision of the Court that determined the blockade of their passports, including the diplomatic.

The presence of the parliamentarian in US territory was confirmed by the UOLbased on US customs data.

According to reports, from Val embarked on a flight from Manaus to the US. Along the way, a red passport was recognized and presented, a characteristic document of parliamentarians and diplomats. The Supreme Court, however, had already unanimously denied a resource of the senator trying to recover the document.

The senator himself confirmed to the portal that he is in the US and classified the decision of Alexandre de Moraes as illegal, which determined the blockade of his documents in 2023. He says he was not convicted, nor had his mandate revoked, and therefore could not be prevented from traveling.

“If I had a blockade, how did I leave? You have to ask the Federal Police. Call the Federal Police and ask. This will show that Alexandre is defeated. The decision is illegal,” said Val.

In a statement, the parliamentarian reiterated that he has “all fully regular diplomatic and consular documentation.” He states that the diplomatic passport is valid until July 2027 and the recently renewed US entry visa is valid until 2035.

Val also states that he reported “all law enforcement authorities” about his trip and that there is no valid court decision that restricts his freedom of movement.

Coup attempt

The senator is investigated in the Supreme Court for a series of crimes linked to the 2022 coup plot, including: disclosure of confidential document, criminal association, coup, violent abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law and criminal organization.

Although he was not arrested, Val had passports seized by order of Moraes, as a precautionary measure. The decision was upheld by the STF plenary, which unanimously rejected an appeal presented by the defense in March this year.
