Moraes orders that Marcos do Val use electronic anklet after disobeying STF
Senator Marcos do Val (Somos) will be monitored by an electronic anklet from this Monday (4), by order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the Supreme Federal Court (STF). The measure was determined after the parliamentarian returned to Brazil without the authorization of the Court, after spending about 10 days in the United States during the parliamentary recess.
Val landed in Brasilia this morning and was approached by the Federal Police (PF) at the airport, as determined by the TV Globo. In addition to the anklet, Moraes imposed a series of new restrictions, which expand the precautionary measures already in force against the senator investigated for involvement in the plan to nullify the 2022 elections and attacks on the PF.

Without authorization
Even though he was the target of precautionary measures, from Val traveled to Orlando (USA) during the parliamentary recess. He had asked the Supreme Court authorization for the trip on July 15, but the request was denied by Moraes the next day. Still, he embarked based on the use of the diplomatic passport, whose payment had been ordered by the Supreme Court since August last year.
At the time, the Federal Police served search warrants at addresses linked to the senator to seize the document. The justification presented was that the passport would be in the parliamentary office in Brasilia.
Val stated in a statement that he traveled “with all the full and consular documentation fully regular” and that he would have informed the Supreme Court, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Senate about the country’s departure. Moraes, however, maintained that precautionary measures prevail as long as investigations last and that the investigated is to adjust their routine to court orders, not the other way around.
Research in course
Marcos do Val is investigated in two inquiries in the Supreme Court: one that investigates his participation in the attempt to nullify the result of the 2022 presidential elections – won by Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT) – and another for offenses to Federal Police officers.
In both cases, the authorities point to serious and recurring conduct from the senator, who became one of the protagonists of the pocket wing in an attempt to delegitimize the electoral process and democratic institutions. Moraes had already determined, by 2023, the blockade of $ 50 million of his account.
With the aggravation of the measures, the senator has restrictions equivalent to those imposed on Jair Bolsonaro (PL), with home collection, anklet use and veto for the use of social networks.
