Trump announces Washington police control and troop sending

Congress needs to be notified up to 48 hours. Trump must inform, in writing, the leaders of the Senate and the House about the reason for the order and how long it foresees that they will need the services. The measure is closed after 30 days, or when parliamentarians decide for their end.

Falling Crime

Contrary to what the American stated, crime in the place fell. The city’s police department states that violent crimes declined 26% in Washington in the first seven months of 2025, compared to last year, while crimes generally decreased by 7%.

Civil society movement reacted against interference. “We don’t know what they (the plans) are, but no one has asked for it,” argued the Free DC movement website, which summoned protests for today.

The president warned that he would offer shelter away from the capital to the homeless population, while criminals would be arrested. According to the Housing Department’s annual report in 2024, Washington had more than 5,600 homeless people, occupying 15th place among the main cities of the United States in this regard.

Last week, he had already given an order to allocate more federal police officers in the city. These servers are from more than a dozen agencies, including the FBI, the IMMIGRATION AND CUSTOMS Pourcement (ICE), the Drug Encarcement Administration (DEA) and the ATE (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firems and Explosives).
