Nunes says he wants to be a businessman again and rules out the government of SP

The mayor of Sao Paulo, Ricardo Nunes (MDB), said on Friday, 15, that he does not plan to run for the State Government and that he intends to be a businessman again when he finishes his second term. “I’m mayor, but I’m a businessman, I will continue in this activity when I finish my term in 2028. What does the entrepreneur need? May the government not to disturb. That not creating, who didn’t even create now, more IOF, creating tax, generating difficulty,” Nunes said at an event held by the CNN Brazil.

Nunes also stated that he never confirmed his candidacy for the state government, but is happy with his research performance. According to a survey by Paraná research in May, when the current governor of São Paulo, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), is not cited as a candidate for the Bandeirantes Palace, Nunes leads with 29.5% of voting intentions, against Márcio França (PSB), which figures 16.2%.

“My goal is to finish the mandate. What happened is that when the surveys came out, my name came out very well positioned. I am happy, it is a recognition of my work,” he said. Nunes’ possible candidacy is considered because Tarcisio-which can run for reelection-is a viable name to represent the right in the 2026 presidential race. The governor can be sponsored by former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), which is ineligible by 2030. Bolsonaro, however, has not indicated his candidate and says he will run for president.

Pocket resistance

Nunes’ candidacy for the state government is not widely defended among the pockets. Supporters of the former president in Sao Paulo want a right name to the right to compete in 2026, if Tarcisio applies to the presidency.

The tension between Nunes and the Bolsonarists grew after the municipal secretary of Urban Security, Orlando Morando, to publicize in a social network research in which the mayor appears leading the race for the São Paulo government. In the caption, living wrote: “Tarcísio de Freitas President and Ricardo Nunes Governor,” discarding Bolsonaro from the presidential race.

In gestures of approach to the former president, Nunes criticized the imposition of precautionary measures against Bolsonaro and attended the last demonstration in support of the former chief executive, which was held on August 3 on Paulista Avenue. Tarcísio did not participate in this act for having performed a medical procedure on the day.
