Lula says Brazil is living with Trump's 'unnecessary turbulence'

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva just said that the world is experiencing “unnecessary turbulence” with the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump. “I cannot admit that a president of a country the size of the United States can tell the amount of untruths he has told about Brazil. Brazil is not a rich country. Brazil does not have the GDP that has Americans, Brazil does not have the GDP of China. But we have a people who deserve respect,” he said.

The speeches were made at the opening ceremony of the Chinese factory GWM (Great Wall Motor), in Iracemápolis (SP). According to the Planalto Palace, the factory will generate a thousand new jobs in Brazil by the end of the year.

Lula also praised Brazil’s negotiation capacity. “Brazil likes to negotiate. If there is one thing Brazil is doing is negotiating,” he said. He praised Vice President Geraldo Alckmin, Minister of Industry, Development and Commerce, who is at the head of attempts at dialogue with the US. “He was governor of Sao Paulo for 16 years, knows how to negotiate and respect people,” he said.

The president also highlighted data on the business relationship between Brazil and China. “It is important for people to know that Brazil’s trade with China today is simply $ 160 billion against $ 80 billion from our trade with the United States. It’s important that you know because we created the BRICS. It’s because we were tired of being treated as third world countries,” he said.

Lula repeated that, in Brazil, it is necessary to have political stability to ensure economic stability. “The first thing we had to offer to those we wanted to convince to come to Brazil was a simple thing, called political stability,” he said.
