Zema counters Haddad on debt renegotiation: “Example has to come from above”

A group of 20 state deputies from Minas Gerais, members of the opposition to Governor Romeu Zema (Novo), released on Sunday (17) a letter criticizing the launch of his pre-candidacy for the Presidency of the Republic. According to the text, the governor would be abandoning state problems to bet on a personal power project.

The demonstration came from the Democracy and Fight Block, which brings together PT, PC do B, PSOL, Network and PV parliamentarians. The group states that after almost seven years of management, Zema tries to “sell the image of an innovative politician” based on marketing actions and a “turbocharged” advertising funds, estimated at $ 147 million.

Cuts, abandonment and exemptions

The letter lists a series of criticism of state management, including:

• Fuel cuts for police vehicles;
• attempted to privatize schools and abandon the public school system;
• Hospitals without conditions of care and negligence in health;
• Reduction of R $ 1 billion in resources to combat poverty;
• Deterior roads while works favor personal interests.

Deputies also state that while the government invests in “luxury buffets” and grants billionaire tax exemptions to large companies, Zema authorized a 300% readjustment in their own salary, contrasting with only 3% to public servants.

Another sensitive point addressed by the opposition is Zema’s posture in international relations. The group accuses the governor of praising actions by a foreign president who threatens national sovereignty and criticizes his “hostile” attitude towards BRICS, the economic bloc formed by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

According to data cited in the letter, the Federation of Industries of the State of Minas Gerais (FIEMG) estimates that this position puts at risk up to 187,000 jobs, linked to mining exports to the bloc countries.

“Trampoline of personal ambitions”

The text ends with an appeal to the population and a warning about the risks of the politicization of Minas Gerais. “Our state is the synthesis of Brazil, guardian of its history, its culture and the dignity of a people that deserve respect and future,” say the deputies.

“Minas Gerais cannot be treated as a trampoline of personal ambitions. What is not good for Minas will never be good for the country.”
