PT elects new executive focused on the reelection of Lula and Trump at Mira
The Workers Party (PT) announced on Saturday, 23, its new national executive committee with wings of the main internal current, building a new Brazil (CNB), occupying the main positions, focusing on reelecting the President of the Republic, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, and US President Donald Trump, in the aim.
Chaired by the former mayor of Araraquara, Edinho Silva, the national directory gathered early to define the new names of the executive and approve the guidelines of the composition for the near future.
The list of elected reflects the agreements the new president had to make to reach the chair. Gleide Andrade, ally of the former president and today Minister of the Secretariat of Institutional Relations (SRI) Gleisi Hoffmann, was maintained at the Secretariat of Finance and Planning-initially in Edinho’s unwillingness.
Among the 26 names of the executive had the presidency (11 secretaries, 10 vowels and five vice-presidents), 14 are from CNB. The rest belongs to smaller currents.
All new five vice presidents are men: Jilmar Tatto, Joaquim Soaiano, José Guimarães, Rubens Junior and Washington Quaquá. The leaders of the House benches, Lindbergh Farias, and the Senate, Rogério Carvalho, too.
There are five women among the other main positions: Lucinha (popular movements and sectoral policy), Maria de Jesus, Claudinha (nucleation), Fortuna Vitória (articulation of public policies) and Tassia Rabelo (formation), as well as Gleide.
The proportion goes against the defense of gender equality manifest in the resolution approved on the same day.
The remaining secretariats will be occupied by: Eden Valadares (Communication), Henrique Fontava (General Secretariat), Humberto Costa (International Relations), Laércio Ribeiro (organization), Luiz Felipe, Hadesh (mobilization), and Romenio Pereira (institutional affairs).
Political Resolution of the Directory puts Trump in Mira
The PT also approved the new resolution during the meeting of the National Directory. The text, composed of 29 items, is opened with criticism of Trump, whose policy is described as “imperialist and extreme right, characteristic of fascist thinking.”
“No one has doubt that the Trump administration is inspired by fascism. The way he deports immigrants, as he forces Washington’s mayor to erase the” black lives matter “from the streets, so he manifests himself in a racist way, the way he has deported Venezuelan immigrants to El Salvador. If the civilized world does not raise the voice of the 21st century. Supports Nazi forces in Europe. When I characterize Trump as the greatest fascist leader of the 21st century, I’m not angry, ”Edinho said in a press conference after the executive’s election.
For the PT, Trump’s movements show that his offensive against national sovereignty, with the 50% tariff over Brazilian products, should go beyond the measures taken so far. The party says it is facing a “extended fascism dispute that tends to unfold into different political, institutional and economic dimensions.” The internal evaluation is that Trump wants to defeat Lula in next year’s elections.
The PT plans a wide mobilization for September 7, whose motto must be the defense of democracy and sovereignty. The idea is to take advantage of the climate of hostility with the Trump administration, amid investigations against the Bolsonaro family and the advance of the former president’s judgment in the Supreme Court (STF).
Petist leaders want to organize a kind of popular referendum for a range of economic agenda that should pack the party campaign next year: the end of the 6 × 1 scale, the taxation of super rich and income tax exemption for those who earn up to 5,000 reais per month.
In the political resolution of the directory, the PT also criticizes the possibility of an amnesty for the pockets involved in January 8, the reconstruction of the Permanent Forum of the Legal Amazon PT during COP30 and the regulation of digital platforms, which is about to advance in the federal sphere.
