Trump has no basis for sending troops to Chicago, says Democratic leader
In July, the Baltimore Police Department reported that there was a two -digit reduction in armed violence compared to the previous year. The city has had 84 homicides so far this year -? The smallest number in more than 50 years, according to the mayor.
“If Wes Moore needs help … I will send the” troops “, which is being done in the neighboring DC, and quickly eliminate the crime,” Trump said on Truth Social on Sunday.
Some Republican governors sent hundreds of National Guard soldiers to Washington, DC, at Trump’s request. The president described the capital as plagued by a wave of crime, although official data show that crime is decreasing in the city.
This Sunday, Trump stated, without evidence, that there were no more crimes in the city and attributed it to the sending of troops and hundreds of federal agents.
Trump has much less power on Chicago and Baltimore than about the district of Columbia, where, as president, he has more influence.
Title 10 of the US Code, a federal law that describes the role of US armed forces, includes a provision that allows the president to send national guard units to repel an invasion, repress a rebellion, or allow the president to execute the law.
