With judgment, the world transforms Brazil into the field of testing of democracy
The effort indicates, according to sources in Brasilia, the international dimension of the trial that begins this week. The operation, for now, has not yet been implemented.
Members of ABIN (Brazilian Intelligence Agency) revealed to Facto News also the proposal that emerged within the institution for a psychological profile of Trump to be designed to assist members of the Lula government to act.
“What is at stake is much more than the fate of a former president,” said a high-end of European diplomacy, anonymous condition. What capitals like Berlin, Madrid or Paris want to know is how, in one of the far -right epicentra in the world, laws will deal with an attempt to coup d’état, including the help of misinformation.
If the international and academics have already reached consensus on how democracies die, what is under test in Brazil is how they survive.
“It is a trial with national and international repercussions,” says Fabio de Sá e Silva, professor at Oklahoma University. “In Brazil, he breaks with a cycle of scammers’ impunity – a historical debt that, if it had been paid in the last democratic transition, perhaps we could not face now. In the global scenario, it marks the closure of a cycle in which Brazilian democracy, although attacked as so many others, managed to resist and assert itself to its detractors like any other,” he says.
“The case arouses such attention abroad: shows that defending democracy does not only mean containing abuses, but also responsible who practice them – an indispensable condition for the country to finally turn the page,” he adds.
