Opposition says judgment in the STF is “theater” and wants to vote amnesty this week

The opposition to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the House of Representatives said he hopes that the president of the House, Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), “fulfills the word” and guide the amnesty to those involved in the scammer acts of January 8, to also benefit former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

This theme will be, according to the group, the main one to be taken to the meeting of leaders on Tuesday, 2, who will define the projects that should be voted in plenary this week. As the Estadão column showed, however, there is no desire for leaders of the center to make the amnesty prosper.

“A man has a word. We believe it was time for him (Motta) to fulfill the word,” said Zucco (PL-RS), leader of the opposition in the House. “It is up to Congress to guide a agenda that can pacify our country.”

Opposition deputies gathered at Zucco’s functional apartment in Brasilia to define strategies this week. For them, the trial of Bolsonaro and seven other defendants that the Supreme Court (STF) leads is a combined game “theater” to condemn the former president and the others.

Because of this, they say, parliamentarians should not be massively present throughout the trial. “We know that going to this trial just watching a theater. We are intended to follow the speech of President Bolsonaro or the vote of the ministers,” said Zucco.

For minority leader Caroline de Toni (PL-SC), the beginning of the trial marks the “day of shame”. “May this day like today’s day of national shame, the day of full persecution and we will not be silent,” says Toni.

In addition to the reaction in the House, the opposition defined September 7 as a day of protests and popular mobilization on the streets. According to parliamentarians, there will be manifestations in all the main capitals of Brazil.
