State most affected by US tariffs, CE decrees emergency

The state of Ceará declared emergency because of the impacts generated on the economy for US tariffs on Brazilian products. The decree was signed yesterday by Governor Elmano de Freitas (PT) and published in today’s Official Gazette, without stipulated validity.

The text of the decree takes into account the “adverse social and economic scenario” caused by the tariff increase of 50%, which required the government “urgent measures in order to assist the affected sectors and ensure the jobs of the population”.

With products such as iron, fruits and fish, Ceará is, in proportional terms, the state that sells the most to the US: 52% of Ceará exports in the first half were destined to the country ruled by Donald Trump. For comparison, the second place is the Holy Spirit, where the US take a slice of 34% of exports.
