Fux helps show STF impartiality and can relieve fare, says Lula minister
The Minister of Agrarian Development and Family Farming, Paulo Teixeira (PT), evaluated on Thursday (11) that the vote of Minister Luiz Fux in favor of the acquittal of Jair Bolsonaro in the trial of the attempted 2022 coup at the Supreme Court (STF) can help reduce commercial tension with the United States.
For Teixeira, the divergent manifestation of Fux reinforces the image of impartiality of the Brazilian Supreme Court, undermining the argument of US President Donald Trump that Bolsonaro was being the target of political persecution. Republican has used this justification to maintain a 50% rate on Brazilian products.

“Minister Fux’s decision shows that the trial is technical, not ideological. This helps to weaken the persecution thesis and can make room for the resumption of dialogue with the US,” the minister said during Conab (National Supply Company) ceremony in Brasilia.
Way to rapprochement
Despite Fux’s vote, the majority scenario in the 1st class of the Supreme Court is moving towards the conviction of Bolsonaro. Still, Teixeira believes that the closure of the process and the definition of the penalty of those involved in the attempted democratic rupture can mark a turning point in relations with Washington.
“With the end of the trial, we can argue again with rationality. The US has interest in our products, and US consumers are being penalized at high prices. It is not in anyone’s interest to maintain this conflict,” he said.
Tariff relief
Teixeira also said that products such as beef, fruits and coffee are among the main candidates for any rate flexibility. According to him, high costs for US consumers are already causing internal pressure to review the measures adopted by Trump.
“Americans are paying more for essential foods because of the tariff. This is not supported for long, and Brazil is ready to resume this trade,” said the minister.
