Sabino warns Lula that he will present a dismissal letter after União Brasil ultimatum
The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino (Union), warned on Friday (19), after meeting with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who will leave the government. The decision occurs after the ultimatum given by União Brasil, which in the fifth anticipated the landing movement of the Esplanada and determined the delivery of positions of all its affiliates within 24 hours.
At the Dawn Palace, in a 1h30 conversation, the minister explained the party’s decision, said he had important agendas to comply with and that on the return of Lula from New York he will present an resignation letter. The president embarks Sunday (21) to the United States to attend the UN General Assembly and only returns to Brazil on Thursday (25).
The minister is one of Lula’s assistants who had been conducting COP30 preparations in Belém, which will take place in November.
Despite the pressure of União Brasil, Celso Sabino was interested in staying in the government. In early September, Lula told Lula that he would like to follow in office and would work by alternatives within the party for this. One of the hypotheses raised at the time was Sabino to license from the subtitle.
Celso Sabino’s desire to stay in government is also linked to his electoral pretensions in 2026. Federal Deputy for Pará, Sabino has plans to run for a Senate vacancy for the state on the plate with Governor Helder Barbalho (MDB).
According to interlocutors, Lula would have already signaled Sabino who would support him in the dispute. In 2022, Lula won the presidential dispute in Pará with 54% of the votes.
Despite having announced the government’s landing, União Brasil has three ministries in the government. Celso Sabino is an indication of the subtitle camera bench. Ministers Waldez Góes (National Integration) and Frederico Siqueira Filho (communications), as they are sponsored by Senate President David Alcolumbre (Union-AP), will not be affected by the acronym movement.
