PGR should report Jair and Eduardo Bolsonaro to the STF for coercion, tells Jornal

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) prepares a complaint against former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and Deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) for coercion crimes in the course of the process and attempted abolition of the Democratic Rule of Law, said the Folha de S. Paulo. The case is expected to be formalized in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) later this week.

If accepted by the court, the complaint will turn Eduardo into a defendant, which may compromise his plans to dispute the presidency in 2026. Legal risk weakens the political protagonism of the former president’s son, who already has resistance within the political spectrum itself.

Eduardo has lived in the United States since March, working with the Government Donald Trump to pressure Brazil with political and commercial sanctions. This prolonged absence already raises the possibility of loss of mandate due to excess unjustified absences.

The parliamentarian was indicted in August by the Federal Police (PF), who pointed to him as an articulator of retaliation against ministers of the Supreme. The PF also attributed to Jair Bolsonaro the transfer of R $ 2 million via Pix to his son in the US, interpreted as possible financing of the coercion offensive against the judiciary.

The group’s actions coincided with retaliation measures announced by Washington against Brasilia and Brazilian authorities. In addition to the 50% tariff on Brazilian exports and the PIX investigation, the Trump government filed Minister Alexandre de Moraes in the magnitsky law, freezing any assets in the US and accusing him of human rights violation.

PGR’s complaint adds to a set of processes that place the Bolsonaro family at the center of the largest political-institutional imbroglio since January 8.
