Trump summed up the conversation with “he liked me, I liked him”, but said “Brazil is doing badly”. “I only do business with people I like,” he said. “I will always defend our national sovereignty and the rights of US citizens. I’m sorry to say that Brazil is doing badly and will continue to do bad. They can only do well when they are working with us. Without us, they will fail, as others will fail.”
The two agreed to meet next week, second American. The information was confirmed by the Brazilian government. The date and the place have not yet been disclosed.
UN meeting happened in the face of the worst crisis in 201 years of bilateral relations between Brazil and the USA. Speech comes one day after Trump management trigger visa restrictions and financial sanctions on global magnitsky law against Brazilian targets.
Lula defended sovereignty of Brazil
Petista made indirect criticism of Trump. Without citing names, Lula said that “Brazil gave a message to all autocratic candidates,” in reference to the conviction of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and Trump’s sanctions against the country and Brazilian authorities.
