Argentine Shell Post is criticized by video that mocks from attack to woman
“We deeply regret that a company like this, to try to attract consumers’ attention, use a resource in which the message of gender violence is strengthened in a country where femicide is committed every 27 hours,” says a statement from the collective feminist journalists in between rins.
Argentine feminist journalist, writer and feminist activist Gabriela Cabezon Camara described the publicity as “trash” and added: “Played in the trash, as well as a condom, pumpkin peel, roles that do not serve, barbecue bones and other things.”
Feminist groups recalled that current President Javier Milei threatened to remove the category of femicide from the Penal Code. The president when he took over, in 2023, he eliminated the Ministry of Gender and Diversity.
Company apologized and took video off the air
The company released a statement on its Facebook account apologizing and recognizing that the advertising piece “can be interpreted” as an apology for gender violence.
“By Eric Wagner and Cia, owners of the shell gas station in the city of Crespo, between ríos, we want to publicly express our most sincere excuses for the content released in a recent video published in our networks” (…) we recognize that shared material was totally inappropriate and can be interpreted as an apology for gender violence, “says the text, released on Facebook.
