USA lower Brazil in a report on human trafficking and put a country on alert

Brazil has entered the US Department of the United States Department of Human Trafficking, published on Monday (29) in the Annual Trafficking in Persons report.

The document, which serves as a world reference to measure governments’ commitment to combat forced labor and sexual exploitation, concluded that the country did not have enough progress in 2024.

According to Americans, there was a drop in the number of open investigations and legal proceedings related to the subject. As a result, Brazil has been relegated to the so -called “Level 2 Surveillance List”, a category that includes countries that even adopt formal measures, but do not advance in concrete results.

South Africa also joined the list. The report recognizes initiatives such as new regional task forces and additional convictions, but criticizes the decrease in the number of identified victims and cases brought to court.

This year’s document was delivered to the US Congress with a delay of almost three months after an internal crisis in the state department that led to the departure of part of the responsible team.

Commenting on the publication, Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, wrote in the X: “Human trafficking is a devastating crime that enriches transnational criminal organizations and immoral and anti -American regimes.”
