Out of office, Sabino praises Lula in a speech in Pará: ‘count on me’

Tourism Minister Celso Sabino, who is leaving the government after the ultimatum of his party, União Brasil, made a praiseworthy speech to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva this Thursday in a speech in Belém. Sabino, who is Pará, is part of ministerial entourage that accompanies Lula with agendas in the capital of Pará a month before COP30.

Sabino delivered the resignation a week ago, but pledged to stay in office until this week to participate in the delegation that accompanies Lula to Bethlehem. The minister should leave office due to a determination of União Brasil, which determined the landing of his government affiliates, despite maintaining reliable positions in Lula’s management.

– President Lula, what we did together in tourism will never be forgotten. I am very happy and honored to be here today, in my state of Pará, to tell you: nothing, no political party, no position and no personal ambition, will move away from these people I love and the state of Pará. Tell me, wherever I am, to support you, to hold your hand, because I recognize and know your work and everything you have done for Brazil and the state of Pará – said the minister, who will return to a vacancy in the House.

The minister’s expectation was to be able to circumvent the resistance of the National Executive of União Brasil his permanence in office, which did not occur. His attempt to enclose as successor the ally and current executive secretary of the folder, Ana Carla Machado Lopes, should not be realized either. The position is now claimed by parties such as PSD, PT and PDT.

Earlier this Thursday, when inaugurating the Una treatment plant, which had investments of R $ 125.2 million, of which R $ 49.5 million from the federal government and R $ 75.7 million of counterpart from the Government of Pará, Lula defended the choice of the capital of Para to host COP30, despite the infrastructure bottlenecks, especially the city’s hotel chain. The station, which will treat Ver-o-Peso and region, was hired in 2008, but has stopped three times since then.

– COP is an opportunity. First, for us to introduce the Amazon to the world. Heads of state and climatic matter experts who will come here will be facing the greatest wealth of living forest in the world. If they want to know forest, they will be in place. So it will be done here. It could be done in Rio de Janeiro, in São Paulo, Bahia, Paraná. But we chose the state of Pará and the city of Belém with the greatest goal of showing the true Amazon to the world – said Lula.

Alongside the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, the governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho (MDB) and his brother, the minister of cities, Jader Filho, Lula told reporters that the event will bring a legacy to the city, comparing it with the Barcelona Olympics in Spain. Then he passed the word to Sabino not to mention that the union politician should leave office.

– Let me ask a question here to Minister Sabino. You who are the guy who takes care of tourism, which can be done in tourism taking advantage of COP30? Asked Lula.

“Your government is investing a lot in the preparation for COP, the reception of the delegations that are coming, supporting and financing the construction of new lodging, new hotels,” said Sabino.

In his speech, Lula stressed that the legacy of investments for COP will benefit the population of Belém. Public investments to hold the international event reach R $ 6 billion. The event will be held from November 10 to 21 and the expectation is that Belém will receive about 50,000 people.

– If we assume the responsibility of bringing an event of this magnitude, it is important to remember that this event is not mine, from Helder. It’s UN. We are giving the field for UN to play soccer because for us it matters. (…) We built a partnership with the state of Pará, it is a great investment that we are making with the state and the cities because we want to deal with the people to, when COP is over, the people enjoy all benefits that were made here. Foreigners leave, the city will stay, ”said Lula.
