SP distributes 2,000 antidote ampoules to treat methanol poisoning
At first, Antidote is being sent to reference hospitals in the capital and inland. They are: the Hospital das Clínicas de São Paulo, Campinas and Ribeirão Preto. The Secretariat reported in a statement that ampoules will be sent to health facilities throughout the state, upon request, in case of suspected methanol poisoning.
Results of suspicious exams will come out faster. Also to serve the outbreak, the state network will analyze blood or urine samples of patients with suspected poisoning within one hour. According to the government, the samples collected in the health units will be sent by the Adolfo Lutz Institute to the USP Toxicology Laboratory, in Ribeirão Preto.
Cases in the state
SP recorded 11 cases of methanol poisoning, including a death. Another 41 cases are under investigation, according to data released yesterday afternoon.
Capital leads records with eight confirmed cases and 27 in investigation. Then São Bernardo do Campo with a confirmation and nine records in investigation; Guarulhos, with a confirmed case and an investigated; Itapecerica da Serra with a confirmation; and Barrinha, Limeira, Santos and São Vicente with a case in investigation each.
Nine establishments were banned in the state. In the capital, the interdictions took place in the neighborhoods of Bela Vista, Itaim Bibi, Jardins, Mooca and M’Boi Mirim. Osasco appears on the balance with two banned places, while São Bernardo do Campo and Barueri record one interdiction each.
