Trump threatens to use Insurrection Act to send army to Democratic states
“We have an Insurrection Act for a reason. If I had to invoke it, I would,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office.
“If people were being murdered and the courts were stopping us, or governors or mayors were stopping us, of course I would do that,” the Republican added.
Illinois officials filed a lawsuit this Monday trying to block the mobilization of the National Guard in Chicago, but Judge April Perry, appointed by Joe Biden (2021-2025), did not take any temporary measures while she analyzes the case.
Perry asked the governor of Illinois, Democrat JB Pritzker, to provide more information to the court.
The debate gained momentum after it emerged that Republican-led Texas was planning to send 200 of its National Guard troops to Illinois, a move that infuriated Pritzker.
“They should stay out of Illinois,” the governor said.
