President ousted in Peru rules out seeking asylum: ‘I’m calm’
Congress held the president responsible for the security crisis in the country, which involves organized crime. As soon as she lost her privileged jurisdiction, the MP opened two investigations against her: one for money laundering during the 2021 electoral campaign, when she was a candidate for vice president alongside Pedro Castillo; and another for “negotiation incompatible with the position”.
According to the MP, Boluarte had managed the “payment of social benefits to one of the friends” of the doctor with whom she underwent cosmetic procedures when she was head of state.
‘I will be permanently in the country’
The MP asked the Court to prohibit Boluarte from leaving Peru for a period of 18 to 36 months.
“Those cases that are being investigated by the Public Ministry, I am not responsible for any of them. I am calm, I am at home and will be permanently in the country”, stated the former president.
Boluarte is also the target of an investigation related to the deaths of around 50 people in the repression of protests that followed his coming to power to replace Pedro Castillo, dismissed and arrested after an attempt to close Congress.
