Trump sees power of Israel’s civil society and Netanyahu’s weakness

Historian Fania Oz-Salzberger, an activist and active voice in the demonstrations that brought together hundreds of thousands of people in Israel against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, celebrated the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in a lecture this Sunday night (12) in São Paulo.

Daughter of renowned Israeli writer Amós Oz (1939-2018), Fania attributed the agreement to American President Donald Trump, whom she called a “force of nature, which has no morality, is neither right-wing nor left-wing, without ideology or moral standards”.

“He is a force, a very self-centered force, but he recognizes and respects other forces,” he said. “He realized that Netanyahu is not that strong, that he can be very weak, cowardly, indecisive and selfish. But Israeli civil society is an effective powerful force, which puts 500,000 people to protest in the streets. Being a man of power himself, Donald Trump respects those who have power and has started to respect us.”
